Farewell, Amy

Amy, 35, my best friend from high school, died this weekend of a brain aneurysm. There was no warning. She leaves behind a loving husband, two of the greatest parents a kid could have, and a world of friends.

Amy knew how to live life with bubbling laughter and dignity even when she had dreams way beyond what she could ever accomplish. Amy was absolutely unsinkable! This always bugged the crap out of me, but ultimately it's the thing that I will cherish most from her.

I would like to write something profound, as if that would somehow mean something or change something, but what can you say about the death of a friend? It seems to hit everybody differently and the same at the same time. There's the shock and the pain and all the weird internal emotional rumblings that none of us really know how to talk about. There is so much regret that our lives went in different directions.

Amy, you've left a big hole in all of us who loved you.
